Downtown's hot new restaurant, The Markham, certainly has a broad customer base. Seated next to each other the other night: Chi Chi Valenti with Johnny Dynell, and Charlie Rose with Amanda Burden. As columnist Billy Norwich, who was also in the restaurant, observed (not for the first time), "It's all in the mix."
Sting, Trudie Styler and family are spending their summer in seaside splendor -- at the Positano villa of Franco Zeffirelli. The Italian filmmaker, who put a wing of his house at Sting's disposition, won't be there to entertain. He'll be traveling to London, Israel, Tokyo and Los Angeles. But the Stings are no strangers to Italy -- last year they took a villa in Marlia, near Lucca.
Pamela Harriman gave an Independence Day party on Monday. Unlike the former U.S. ambassador, Walter Curley, whose parties lasted all day, Harriman's party was strictly cocktails. Those to see Pam Pam parading in a red jersey Bill Blass dress were Oscar and Annette de la Renta, Guy de Rothschild, Ira Von Furstenberg, Nancy Kissinger and Hubert de Givenchy.
