BAG OF TRICKS: Fire-eaters and fortune-tellers greeted guests at the Dsquared2 party on Thursday night in Milan that marked the launch the brand’s first comprehensive bag line.
“We really wanted to present the collection in a very different way than in the showroom. It’s carnival in Italy this week so we brought some magic and mystery,” said the brand’s founder and designer Dan Caten, referring to the Houdini-like set, with bags showcased in crystal displays. Caten, together with his twin brother Dean and twin magicians, entertained guests with a performance of tricks and illusions.
“When they asked me if I wanted to join them on the stage I replied ‘Are you joking? Ask Renzo!’” said British designer Neil Barrett with a laugh, referring to Diesel chief Renzo Rosso, sitting front-row at the magic show.
Hitting stores in June, the new bag collection includes a wide range of styles, spanning from practical totes to glamorous evening clutches.
“We wanted to create something which is good-looking and functional at the same time,” highlighted Dean Caten. “We focused on the best shapes and the best materials.”
