Diane von Furstenberg, Howard Socol to Receive Parsons Honors

Sixtieth Annual Benefit and Fashion Show scheduled for April 28 at Grand Hyatt New York.

Diane von Furstenberg and Howard Socol, Barneys New York chairman and chief executive officer, will be the honorees of Parsons The New School for Design’s 60th Annual Benefit and Fashion Show.

The event, scheduled to take place at the Grand Hyatt New York on April 28, raises funds for Parsons’ scholarship and academic programs.

Von Furstenberg and Socol join a list of fashion luminaries to receive the school’s honor that includes Donna Karan; Oscar de la Renta; Marc Jacobs; Macy’s Inc.’s vice chair, Susan D. Kronick; Tommy Hilfiger; Paul Charron, the former chairman and ceo of Liz Claiborne Inc., and Sidney Kimmel, Jones Apparel Group’s former chairman and ceo.

“Diane von Furstenberg is a true American fashion icon and Howard Socol has led Barneys to enormous success,” New School president Bob Kerrey said. “We strive to prepare our students to be both designers and entrepreneurs, so it is fitting that we honor two people who embody this balance of creativity and business savvy.”

In addition to feting von Furstenberg and Socol, Parsons will also showcase the work of graduating students with a special fashion show of some of the top collections, crowned with the announcement of the school’s Designer of the Year award.

Saks Fifth Avenue will display an assortment of pieces from the offerings in the windows of its New York flagship beginning on May 14.
