WAL-MART TO EXPAND IN PUERTO RICO: Interstate General Co., a developer, said it sold a 63-acre parcel of land to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. for $12 million. The site is in a planned community called Parque Escorial in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Wal-Mart is expected to build a 350,000-square-foot shopping center development on the land. As part of the agreement, the giant retailer is also funding about $7 million in infrastructure costs. The community will be developed over the next decade on 431 acres, and will include 2,900 residential units. Wal-Mart declined to comment.

GROWING IN MINNESOTA: Kohl's Department Store will build a store on the site vacated this year by Carson Pirie Scott at the Knollwood Mall in St. Louis Park, Minn., near Minneapolis.
Construction of the 80,648-square-foot store will begin this summer, and the unit is expected to open in the summer of 1995. The existing 120,000-square-foot store on the site will be demolished.

Kohl's, based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., entered the Twin Cities market in 1988 and has seven stores in the area. Two others are slated to open this year in Eagan and Eden Prairie.
