Beauty at Cynthia Steffe

Nars makeup artist James Boehmer played off of the collection’s wearable designs and fabrics for his natural look at Cynthia Steffe on Tuesday afternoon. The focus was on the skin, with Boehmer creating a beautiful velvet texture, making sure that the makeup itself wasn’t showing. Cheeks were blended with a mix of crème blush in Penny Love and a new shade for fall, Dolce Vita, to create a healthy glow.

Eyes were matte with a mix of gray cream shadow and powder shadow to create a shade “somewhere between dove and charcoal,” said Boehmer, adding, “We didn’t want the girls to look sweet or cute or fresh, we wanted them to have some grit.”

The smoky gray eye was kept close to the lash line for a “less sexy, more Belgian inspired, serious and thinking” eye. Concealer was applied to lips, followed by Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita.

Bumble and bumble’s Dennis Lanni kept hair loose and wavy for what he called a “great little hair fantasy.”Deep side parts were created on models’ hair and those with fine hair were given extensions. Lanni then curled sections with an iron and pinned in figure-eight curls for a wave that was a “little more organic, a little less hair dressery.”

Lanni’s styling aids included Bumble’s Thickening Spray and a new hair spray, called Spray de Mode, to help shape and set the style.
