MILAN — Following media reports claiming the discovery of “pieces of an airplane” on the coast of Curaçao were part of the aircraft carrying Vittorio Missoni and five other individuals that went missing on Jan. 4, the families of Missoni and the other passengers issued a statement on Friday saying that “at the moment, no official source in Italy, Venezuela and Curaçao, with which we are in direct contact, has confirmed this information.”
Once again, the families requested the “utmost caution in the diffusion of news that are not officially confirmed.”
Over the past few weeks, two bags belonging to Missoni were found on the island of Bonaire, in the Netherland Antilles. Another one was found on the island of Curaçao, in the Caribbean Sea, which had been stowed on Missoni’s plane and that helped focus the search west of Los Roques.
The Missoni family’s stance is that “the case [of the missing executive] is not closed.” The Italian and Venezuelan authorities continue to investigate the disappearance of the Islander YV2615 and its passengers. The plane went missing near Venezuela’s Los Roques archipelago.
Meanwhile, the Missoni fall/winter 2013 show is confirmed to take place on Sunday in Milan but no backstage access will be granted to press or photographers.
