Backstage beauty at Biba

To accommodate hats, chunky cable-knit scarves and clothes featuring lots of detail, hairstylist Duffy, who was working with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.art, created a fresh and simple look at the Biba show.
“I didn’t want to do anything that was a ‘do,’” Duffy said. “It’s really simple hair and for me that brings a little softness.” Hair was pulled into ponytails with tendrils left loose at the front to create softness around the face. He used Tecni.art Constructor while blow-drying as well as Tecni.art Texture Spray and Infinium hairspray. Hair was tonged to create movement.
Makeup artist Alex Box, who was working with MAC Cosmetics, focused on the eyes for the show. “I wanted something modernist and graphic,” she said, adding she wanted to accentuate the shadow created by the hats models wore during the show.
“It’s like in old film noir — a letter box of light.” Keeping skin bare, save for a smidge of concealer, Box used MAC Boot Black Liquid Eye Liner to elongate models’ eyes. “It gives an oblong shape to the eye,” she said.
