Shoshanna Gruss's bikinis have become synonymous with figure flattery. Since launching her eponymous swim collection in 2001, Gruss's suits are sought after season after season because she's one of the few designers to offer mix-and-match styles.

She cites her own curvy yet petite figure, and the frustrating bikini shopping that came along with it -- hence the mixing and matching -- as the inspiration behind starting her line. Gruss designs swimwear with fit and comfort in mind, a given being that she started her fashion career working at a lingerie factory.

Is there a swim style you find universally flattering?
The Halter style is universally flattering on almost any body type
Which style in your collection would be your go-to bathing suit?
Any of the bandeau tops & side tie bottom
Where is your favorite beach in the world?
I really love any beach that has warm waters, places to look for beautiful shells and play with my daughter Sienna, but some of my favorite beaches I love to go back to are in the Bahamas, Sardinia and Bora Bora
What do you think is the most iconic moment in bikini history?
Brigitte Bardot wearing a bikini in St. Tropez - she was truly one of the first women to break the one-piece mold and was absolutely gorgeous!

Yay!
What are your beach day essentials?
Magazines, books, Blackberry, sunblock and a camera
The ideal beach bag?
I love and use for the most part my oversized LLBean classic canvas tote, but also love any type of woven straw bag and the Wayuu Taya bags currently up on Shopbop & Bonadrag.
What beaches are you going to this summer plans?
Cape Cod, East Hampton & Malibu
