Knowing the four fashionable ladies wouldn't mingle with anyone less than the best-dressed, hopefuls pulled out their most notable outfits in their efforts to woo casting directors. An assortment of tight spandex dresses, oversize designer handbags, and various Italian labels paraded around a full Manhattan block toward the Metropolitan Pavillion.
As they marched along, WWD asked a few about their look for the big audition, and what role they'd be best suited for.
Ruth, "a senior" actress, wearing a blue and white jumpsuit
WWD: Who makes your jumpsuit?
Ruth: The jumpsuit is made by Gottex, the company that makes swimsuits. I can't wear it everywhere, so I figured today's a good day. There are so many people here, and they're dressed outrageously. I thought I was dressed very differently, but I see that some of the girls are baring more....They're much younger than me. I'm a senior.I wore [this jumpsuit] on July 4. This is only the second time I'm wearing it. The shoes are comfortable. I never wear heels this high. I had knee replacement surgery a year and a half ago, and I couldn't wear heels that much anymore.
Dale, fiftysomething actor, wearing a blue pinstriped Calvin Klein suit
WWD: Are you coming from work?
Dale: No, I'm an actor.
WWD: Any particular reason you wore the suit?
Dale: I just wore what was on my headshot.
WWD: Any particular character you're looking to audition for?
Dale: One of the things they're looking for is the Upper East Side chic look. That's what I'm going for.
WWD: This look could also be international playboy.
Dale: OK.
WWD: Would you be wiling to adapt to that?
Dale: I can. I'm an actor!
WWD: What other roles have you played recently?
Dale: Actually, I was an extra in "Sex and the City," the series.
WWD: What role did you play?
Dale: I was just a passerby. Nonspeaking.
WWD: So if they give you a demographic description this time, that's an improvement right?
Dale: Yeah. That's working up.
Danae, "I'm legal!", an FIT student wearing a pink jumpsuit and oversize sunglasses
WWD: What role are you looking to play?
Danae: A fashionista. A regular Manhattan socialite. I grew up in Manhattan, the Upper West Side. I go to Fashion Institute of Technology.
WWD: So which of the characters do you most identify with?
Danae: I identify with all four of them. Maybe not the Kim Cattrall character as much because I'm not really a freak. I can be -- privately though. But Carrie, I like to write. And I'm looking for that one true love. Miranda, I used to want to be a lawyer, but I'm all attitude. And with Charlotte, I'm just a girly girl. I'm a socialite. Like Charlotte.
WWD: You go out a lot? Danae: Yeah. Always.
WWD: Do you drink cosmos?
Danae: Yeah, I drink cosmos. Because my homeboys, they bartend. So I'm always at the exclusive clubs -- Marquee, Pink Elephant, Cain, The Gansevoort rooftop. I'm always at the spot.
