I arrived 20 minutes early for my 2 o’clock sit-down with Kim Kardashian on Thursday and, upon walking up to the second floor of Villa Pacri in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, I saw that the reality star was holding court with a cluster of magazine editors, cameras rolling.
I was told our conversation would also be videotaped for Kardashian’s new E network show, which begins in January, called “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.”
As Joyce Bonelli, Kim’s makeup artist — and whose shout, “Hi gorgeous!” Kim recorded and made into her ring tone — patted down my forehead with a sponge, I was told the camera crew had gone to lunch.
So I got my 15 minutes (12:46, actually) with the impeccably dressed and very tanned Kardashian. Thanks Saint-Tropez.
She took me through her nearly year-long beauty deal with Fusion Brands Inc., which involves her fronting lip-plumping products — as if she needs them — as well as the new show with Kourtney, comparing it to the Miami-based spin-off of “Keeping Up With...,” called “Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami,” where her two sisters opened and run a fashion boutique.
When asked what she gets out of all the bedlam of the fashion shows, she replied, “I’m there as a buyer.” Especially, it seems, as some of next season’s designer wares will be stocked at her new New York store.
And it just may be that Josh Goot, who made the dress she was wearing; Cesare Paciotti, who did her five-inch heels, and the Loren Jewels earrings and oversize bangle, could become mainstays of her New York boutique.
And what news of her love life? Think: career first. But she did admit that by the tabloids’ collective account, she’s dating about 10 guys.
So much for that.
She was modest, considering her stature as the queen of the reality concept, putting others who were there “first,” well, first. Nevertheless, the phrase “my fans” received a bit of a throwing around.
Perhaps being famous just for being famous isn’t such a bad thing.
