I’m here on the French Riviera for a few days because I’ve been invited by the Mayor of Cannes, Bernard Brochand, to host the first fashion show during the festival. To me, this makes perfect sense because fashion and film are perfect partners. I love the view from my seventh-floor suite of the Martinez — you can see everything: all the yachts, the entire beach.
I think my wife, Eva, and I may take a side trip to Saint-Tropez by boat. We adore that town, though we’ve been vacationing in Sardinia for the last few years. After that, it’s back home to Florence for a few days, and then it’s right back on a plane to New York, where I will connect to Panama, where I’ll be a judge in the Miss Universe competition, which is how I met Eva in 1977. She was Miss Austria. I think I like watching women more than my wife does!
P.S. How we met is a very romantic story. I remember I was on stage, and very nervous. Roberto was, as always, very suntanned, and I noticed his light green eyes right away. His eyes followed me across the stage, giving me confidence. We got married three years later and now have three children.
Editor’s Note: Eva Cavalli and Roberto are busy in Cannes.
