Greetings from picture perfect Normandy!
My guy Jim and I decided to take an impromptu trip to celebrate my 29th birthday. I’ve been to France so many times solely for work, but sadly never ventured past Paris’ city gates. So the seaside was a perfect idea.
After a quick stop at Versailles to see the fall flowers in bloom and the work of Xavier Veilhan in the gardens, we made our way to Honfleur. It’s the most charming old harbor town whose cobblestone streets gave our first night there an almost fairy-tale ending. We had dinner at Aux Vieux Honfleur to celebrate my birthday. They serve delicious seafood.
The next morning — OK, I admit I was un peu hung over — we had a blissful petit dejeuner at our quaint hotel, La Ferme Saint Simeon. Then we drove out to visit all the stops along the coast of northern France: Saint-Valéry-en-Caux, Dieppe and Fecamp where, because of my limited French, I accidentally bought a tin of chocolates instead of the sardines I wanted.
Alas, I’m not one for big-deal birthdays, but this one will without a doubt be stored in the memory bank.
