Fashion designer Peter Som, who arrived in a vintage T-shirt and jeans, admitted that in seventh grade he copied lead singer Simon LeBon’s hairstyle. “I lived Duran Duran,” said Som. He wasn’t the only one with a fetish: Padma Lakshmi used to have their posters pinned all over her room. Lakshmi danced on the VIP balcony as the band wailed their 1982 hit, “Hungry Like the Wolf,” while Christy Turlington and Ed Burns hung out nearby.
Gela Taylor, co-president of Juicy Couture, came decked in a vintage Eighties band T-shirt to support her husband, Duran Duran bassist John Taylor. He, in turn, designed all of the logos for Juicy’s recent foray into men’s wear.
And, after all these years, with their trademark smoky eyeliner and those sharp black-and-white suits, the boys proved that their New Wave fashion sense was still in tact.
“I always thought they were all gorgeous,” said Amy Sacco. “Seeing all the makeup and everything — it’s a lot sexier than Kiss ever was.”
