"I'm just here because of Jacob," said a chic but somber Princess Firyal of Jordan Tuesday evening at the Metropolitan Club, where The Royal Oak Foundation was honoring Lord Jacob Rothschild for his contributions to historic preservation.
While Firyal was making her first public appearance since the death of her longtime companion Lionel Pincus, the event was also also enough to bring out Annette de la Renta, who has been sidelined for weeks, following a hip replacement. "I've got on high heels — the whole deal," she said happily as she strolled in on the arm of her husband Oscar.
Before the dinner, which also drew Mercedes and Sid Bass, Henry and Marie-Josee Kravis, Hilary and Galen Weston, and Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, Rothschild treated guests to a slide lecture in which he described the latest improvements at Waddesdon Manor, his 19th-century French-Renaissance-style chateau in England.
