Gustavos Cisneros, a Venezuelan tycoon of immense wealth and influence (the Wall Street Journal will be glad to bring him to your attention and has) and his wife, called Patty, as beautiful as her daughter, have friends all over the world and especially in New York. Many could not be at the wedding in Caracas in June, but more than 500, including scores of young friends of the newlyweds, will be in New York tonight celebrating the marriage at a grand and glamorous private black-tie party, a dinner-dance at the spectacular Wall Street Regent. Dance is the key word here. There will be music, music, music all night long. The Sammy Goz Orchestra, a darling of the international social set, has flown over from Europe and mariachis will serenade the guests during dinner.
No aspect of beauty and dazzlement has been overlooked. Avi Adler of New York will do the decor and even he, Mr. Fantasy, has stretched himself to the limit. Listen to this: The cocktail area will be draped in drama with lush, 60-foot-high curtains slashed with blue light, along with magnificent canopies of maple branches in a rich tapestry of fall colors. Also, specially designed spiral-shaped candle structures will hold hundreds of shimmering votive lights elevated on pedestals of varying heights, and that’s just the beginning.
At dinnertime, the curtains will open to reveal an enchanting dining court framing the dance floor. The tables will be dressed in overlays and underlays in brick red, gold and russets. Low, lush centerpieces will be a sumptuous mix of reds, golds, burnt orange and deep burgundy, filled with dahlias, roses and orchids in hand-upholstered boxes. Overhead, custom-made chandeliers of grand proportions (some are 20 feet in length and 20 feet in diameter) will create a shimmering aerial landscape and knock your eyes out. Also knocking your eyes out will be Patty Cisneros in a teal-blue chiffon Valentino with an embroidered skirt. The "after party" space will be done in hot pink and orange with more spiral candelabra, flowers and dramatic lighting throughout.
