Friends of Elizabeth Hurley have noticed she is one happy woman these days and the naughtier ones think they know the reason why. There’s her bouncing baby boy, of course, but then there’s that other bouncing boy, her boyfriend, Arun Nayar. Arun, with a reputation as one of the best lovers on the Euro/Asian social circuit, is notorious for keeping a copy of the "Kama Sutra" next to his bed in Saint Moritz. Some say he even has it memorized but you know how people exaggerate. Still, over the years, his prowess has been the cause of many a snicker and many more nicknames such as "Him-a-layer" and "Bombay Bonker." (Did I just write that?)
Elle Macpherson has a phobia about cosmic rays hurting her 12-week-old son, Aurelius. With homes in London, Gstaad and Nassau, and family in her native Australia, Elle spends a lot of time on airplanes, which she feels are particularly vulnerable to the sun’s harmful radiation. So, she has bought her Aurelius a custom-made lead-lined cot to sleep in when they are on long-distance flights. Elle’s lover, Arpad Busson, recently called a lot of attention to himself at Heathrow Airport when he was noticed struggling with his son’s new cot, trying to get it on board their flight to the Bahamas. Elle says that she, Arpad and their other son, five-year-old Flynn, wrapped themselves in foil blankets as well for added protection. A girl can never be too careful but who’s the nutsy designer making foil blankets?
Supermodel Kate Moss and her mother stopped by Claridge’s in London the other afternoon for what was called "White Tea and Diamonds." One of the little diversions at this party was a test to see who could spot real diamonds among the paste on display — and guess who won? Kate, naturally, who walked away with the prize, a real diamond. Yes, but how big? Anyhow, Kate should have no trouble telling the true from the false after all the years of dealing with the zircons in her business.
The Plaza Athénée in Paris is the center of a lot of the action at a time when everyone is wondering just where the action is. Among those laying on the hotel bed’s luxurious pillows were Gwyneth Paltrow’s boyfriend, Chris Martin, and his band Coldplay, "Chicago" director Rob Marshall, Ricky Martin, Michael York and John Malkovich, who said he’s selling his chateau in Provence and moving back to America because of problems with French tax authorities. Yves Saint Laurent was at his usual table or deux at the hotel’s Relais Plaza, trying out the new spring menu, which is supervised by Alain Ducasse. Nearby at separate tables were Ines de la Fressange, Emanuel Ungaro, Isabelle Adjani and Roman Polanski with his beautiful wife, Emmanuelle Seigner. Hanging around the hotel’s ultra hip bar du Plaza were Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry and Ben Harper, looking as though they owned the place. They don’t.
