Although half the guests at Tuesday’s Chloé fete in Los Angeles mispronounced their name, “It” girl band Haim (rhymes with “time”) now has quite a few more fashionable fans thanks to their danceable blend of folk-rock and R&B. Before their performance, Este (27), Danielle (24) and Alana (21) took a few minutes to chat with WWD.
WWD: It’s been a busy year for you, performing at Glastonbury and SXSW and releasing your first album “Days Are Gone” a month ago.
Danielle: It’s crazy. We haven’t been home in months but we now have a 10-day stretch before we go on tour in Europe to open for Phoenix.
WWD: So L.A. is home for you?
Este: We were born and raised in the [San Fernando] Valley. We kind of feel like Beverly Hillbillies.
WWD: Are you big fans of Chloé?
Danielle: I made my own prom dress in 2007 after a Chloé dress. It had a heart-shaped bodice and lace.
Este: She slaved over it.
WWD: What was your first Chloé splurge?
Este: We went to the Barneys Warehouse Sale and I got a tank top that was like $200. It was a big deal for me.
WWD: What’s next on your schedule?
Alana: We’re going on tour in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It’s called St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival and it’s us, Lorde, Warpaint, Churches and some others.
Este: It’s pretty rad because it’s almost all female headliners.
WWD: When do you write your songs?
Danielle: We try and do a little each day, whether we’re home or on the road.
WWD: All work and no play?
Alana: We still need to go to Disneyland. It’s our happy place.
