It’s not often that a premiere screening is preceded by an audience breaking into song — but that’s exactly what happened on Thursday when "The Rules of Attraction" writer-director Roger Avary called for a "Happy Birthday" salute to his star, Shannyn Sossamon. At the after-party, held at Nacional, just steps away from the Egyptian Theater, Sossamon held court over nearly a dozen birthday cakes, a far cry from the film’s out-of-control drug use and sexploits.
"We filmed during the summertime, so a lot of us would drink and have fun like normal people," said Sossamon. "But no one was, like, in a hole on heroin."
On the other hand, Kate Bosworth, who shot her small part as one of the notches on James Van Der Beek’s well-worn belt, prior to shooting "Blue Crush," admitted she found the "Rules" raunch liberating. "This was my first sex scene," she said. "So it opened me up in so many ways."
Over in Silverlake, Amelia Fleetwood (daughter of Mick) toasted the opening of her 18-piece photography show, "Places I Have Lived," at the Jeff Electric Gallery. Her work features abstract portraits shot at her residences in London, Ireland and Palm Springs.
