Royal Moment

The Plage des Palmes was transformed into a Versailles parlor for the "Marie-Antoinette" after party Wednesday night, complete with sky blue tents, abundant roses and tufted ottomans.

CANNES, France — The Plage des Palmes was transformed into a Versailles parlor for the "Marie-Antoinette" after party Wednesday night, complete with sky blue tents, abundant roses and tufted ottomans. "I didn't know everything was going to be blue," laughed Kirsten Dunst in a pale taffeta Rochas gown. "Oh well, at least I match." Almost — the ingenue was sporting red hair extensions for "Spiderman 3" instead of the pale hair she wears in "Marie-Antoinette."

As Dunst and her posse milled about, director Sofia Coppola kept company with her father and brother on teak deck chairs. "It's a really big deal to be here," she said. "Now I can finally relax a bit." Even though the audience both booed the film and gave it a standing ovation? "At least I'm getting a reaction." Her cousin Jason Schwartzman was still in awe of the red-carpet spectacle earlier. "It wasn't as freaky as I thought it would be. But I wish my mom [actress Talia Shire] could be here."

Everyone opted for French finery — from Coppola, in a Givenchy minidress, to Schwartzman, in a Dior Homme tux. And, fittingly for a Coppola affair, there were plenty of cool kids in the mix who later rocked out to a performance by Phoenix. Penélope Cruz and Pedro Almodóvar, however, stuck to themselves at a private table.

Meanwhile, at the restaurant at the Eden Roc in Cap d'Antibes, Palisades Pictures chief Vin Roberti and Kimora Lee Simmons teamed up to host a dinner with Harvey Weinstein and Kenneth Cole. Guests, including Chloë Sevigny, Rosario Dawson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Stavros Niarchos, were so busy schmoozing that they didn't notice dinner wasn't served until midnight. "This is my first Cannes, so I'm just trying to soak it up and live it up," Simmons said. Apparently so was Roberto Cavalli, who was inviting everyone and anyone to his iridescent green and purple yacht the following day.
