Friday night, Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney opened their palatial house in Water Mill, N.Y., for a cocktail party to kick off the Alzheimer’s Association Rita Hayworth Gala, which will take place in October. A crowd of well-heeled Upper East Siders, including Debbie Bancroft, Nina Griscom and Muffie Potter Aston (recipient of this year’s Rita Hayworth award) mingled in the couple’s fancifully patterned foyer and den and admired the English garden from the large porch.
Hayworth’s daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Kahn, gave the crowd a moving speech about her mother’s bout with Alzheimers and Alexandra Lebenthal took the opportunity to roast Aston a little bit. “When you work with Muffie...It’s like, ‘Whoa, stay out of Muffie’s way,’” she teased
