The same evening, art aficionados headed to Sotheby's for the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation's dinner. The contemporary art auction featured Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup can, a Hoover vacuum cleaner sculpture by Jeff Koons, an abundance of Picasso drawings and a Robert Rauschenberg assembled from a tie, a piece of furniture and an old sweatshirt. "It's only $10 million to $15 million," laughed co-host CeCe Cord. "Which means you can have it for $16 [million] to $17 [million]."

Out in Los Angeles on Thursday, Escada threw open the doors to its redesigned West Coast flagship, nestled in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Naomi Watts arrived wearing a custom gown by creative director Damiano Biella. "I'm feeling good," said the expectant Watts, who nevertheless took a load off on a leather chair in the VIP room and rubbed her legs. "You look like a pregnant 10-year-old," joked Hilary Swank of Watts' fresh-faced appearance.

On the sex appeal meter, the heat surely rose on nearby Civic Center Drive when leggy starlets like Paula Patton, Mischa Barton and Monet Mazur showed up for the inauguration of Byron Williams' salon, hosted by Rachel Zoe. For Lindsay Lohan, who arrived at 10:45 p.m., the fete may as well have been a pit stop between clubs — if the neon entrance bracelet she was wearing was any indication, her partying had started earlier that night.
