On the West Coast, an artsy group gathered to celebrate the opening of the Annenberg Space for Photography and the aptly titled inaugural exhibit, “Los Angeles.”

“People always complain that Los Angeles has no culture, but that’s not true. You just have to make an effort,” said “Entourage” star Perrey Reeves, was among the 300 guests, including Kate Mara. The event, sponsored by W magazine and Dior, drew not only the 11 featured photographers (including Lauren Greenfield, Catherine Opie and Douglas Kirkland), but also Matthew Rolston and Tierney Gearon. Snapper David LaChapelle arrived with Courtney Love as his plus-one.

And although founder Wallis Annenberg called the medium of photography “the best-running commentary on the human condition,” for Tracee Ellis Ross it simply brought back funny memories.

“I just ran into Douglas Kirkland, who photographed me when I was 16 with braces. Of course he didn’t recognize me at all,” she said, laughing.
