Lia Ices explores the pop-rock fringe on her debut album, “Necima.”

With huge brown eyes, shiny chestnut locks and a slight frame, Lia Ices resembles a young Jane Birkin, which is fitting, given that the soft-spoken 26-year-old cites Birkin as her number-one style icon.

“I think a lot of people who have great style have it because they’ve got confidence in what they’re wearing, so their choices are honest,” says Ices, whose eight-track debut, “Necima” (Rare Book Records), hits shelves Sept. 9. While her album — think a paired-down Regina Spektor-meets-Leslie Feist — showcases Ices’ unabashed, inventive take on the female indie-rock genre, she admits she’s less confident when it comes to her look. “I’m always trying to fi gure out what my style is,” Ices says. “I was quite preppy in high school, being from Connecticut, and before that I went through a little Goth phase, and a straight vintage phase.”

Nowadays, the pianist-singer-songwriter lives in Brooklyn and works a quirky, feminine vibe, mixing vintage with designer duds from the likes of Mayle, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Marni. And if satisfying her now-Champagne taste on a musician’s beer-can budget has proven difficult as of late, there’s hope. Ices, whose looks are as striking as her sound, seems a shoo-in for “next big thing” status in the indie fashion and music scene.

But she’s not letting any hype — or nerves, for that matter — distract her from her passion. “I’m interested in making music that is emotionally driven and experimental,” Ices says. As to her sartorial future, she’s keeping things more vague. “I kind of want to be able to change with [my style]. Especially when I have the funds to.”
