"I feel drunk. I've had two vodka shots," said Francisco Costa less than 30 minutes into this season's soiree at the Waverly Inn on Thursday. Liv Tyler hosted and invited an eclectic group — Kate Hudson, Julianne Moore, Eric Danes, Alan Cumming, Molly Sims, Catherine Keener and Ali Larter — to join her at the dinner, which began with truffled mac and cheese for everyone.
Eventually the Calvin Klein sports mascots arrived — New York Rangers Brendan Shanahan and Sean Avery — which provoked Hudson to reminisce. "Oh, hockey players," she cooed. "I went that route once." (She was rumored to have dated former Dallas Star Eric Lindros back in the Nineties).
After polishing off strip steak and frites, the star-studded crew decided to abandon one hot spot for another: Tyler and her friends climbed into Town Cars and headed to Ashton Kutcher's 30th birthday party at Socialista.
Over in Chelsea, beloved bad-boy photographer Juergen Teller drew admirers, including Alexandra Richards and Michael Stipe, to the opening of his new show at Lehmann Maupin gallery. Besides recent work like Teller's photos of Victoria Beckham for Marc Jacobs' latest ad campaign, the other big attraction was the sausage truck parked outside serving up brats and wursts.
Meanwhile, the young fashion flock tore up the dance floor at Agyness Deyn's birthday bash. The fete (which doubled as Anna Sui's after party) was held at the dive-y Don Hill's and featured a crowd of PYTs such as Riley Keough (who met Deyn earlier that week but has known Sui since she "was, like, six"), Irina Lazareanu and Camilla Belle. For Sui — whose show took place a day earlier — there would be little time spent resting on her laurels. "I'm going back to the studio to start on my next collection on Monday," the designer said.
At 1 a.m., indie rockers The Paddingtons took to the stage (for the first time on Stateside turf) and serenaded Deyn with a punk version of "Happy Birthday." "How many candles are on your cake?" band member Tom Atkin asked the mannequin (whose actual age is highly disputed). "I'm turning 17 this year," Deyn gamely replied.
