One would anticipate sheer pandemonium at a Lady Gaga look-alike contest in New York City — especially with two tickets to the songstresses’ sold out concert at Madison Square Garden at stake. But on Friday, a mere 11 ladies showed up to Bravo Pizza in Union Square to battle it out for best Gaga impersonation.
Which isn’t to say that those 11 ladies didn’t try. One contestant clumsily duct-taped a Red Bull can to her head à la Gaga’s “Telephone” video, while Andrea Felker, 25, spent a grueling five hours hand-sewing her latex dress, which she accessorized with a handmade vinyl bra, black lace veil and nude Calvin Klein undies. “I finished last night before I went to camp out at the ‘Today’ show at 3 a.m.,” Felker said, referring to the Gaga’s performance that morning which drew 18,000 fans to Rockefeller Center.
Despite Felker’s best efforts, 26-year-old Renee Cole was ultimately the pantsless victor, wearing a bejeweled corset, metallic floor-length skirt, lots of pearls, oversized black shades and curled platinum tresses. No doubt she had knack for role-playing. “I got this wig from a previous Marilyn Monroe impersonation job I did,” she said.
