Though the music he sings is country, Keith Urban — as his surname would suggest — boasts a wardrobe that’s anything but. Since releasing his self-titled American solo debut in 1999, the Australia native has eschewed the glitzy rhinestones and folksy spurs of old Nashville, preferring instead to stick to a no-fuss uniform that consists mostly of faded T-shirts and jeans from brands such as AG Adriano Goldschmied and 575 Denim. (Urban wore a distressed pair of 575s when he scored the Academy of Country Music award for Top Male Vocalist in 2007.) Urban’s trademark hairdo has a similarly disheveled vibe. The cut, with its razored ends and textured layers, sparked a slew of imitations and inspired several how-to Web sites.
It’s a head-to-toe look that seems to work well for Urban. At least Dolly Parton thinks so. The singer, who collaborated with Urban on her album, “The Twelfth of Never,” told reporters, “The longer I was with him, the sexier he got. I couldn’t keep my mind on my business.”
Urban’s’ wife, Nicole Kidman, presumably concurs. Since tying the knot to his fellow Aussie in 2006, Urban has hit the red carpet in decidedly chicer duds. The singer donned a slim-fitting black suit for the Academy Awards in February and sported a three-piece khaki number at the AMC awards in May. (Kidman, meanwhile, was swathed in Balenciaga and Marchesa, respectively.)
And it looks like Kidman might not be the only woman in Urban’s life (and closet) these days: The singer, whose next album drops early next year, became a father for the first time to daughter Sunday Rose in July.
