Art students mixed with the cocktail crowd Tuesday night at the New York Academy of Art’s annual Tribeca Ball. Guests, who included Helena Christensen, the Richards sisters and honorary chairs Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, mingled across the school’s studios and with its artists in residence. Those who managed to explore all five floors found an almost nude model here or there, a flamenco band, at least one human statue and a student’s or guest’s confused-looking dachshund.
The boho vibe of the space had practical applications for Amy Sacco, who early in the evening could only find beer at the full-service bar. A painting student came to the rescue. "He was like: 'I have wine in my booth!,'" she said.
The view of the artists at work reminded Hilary Rhoda that she had recently rediscovered some of her own early efforts. "I found these art bins of still lifes from when I was in high school. I was like how did I do that?," said the model.
At dinner, the room was filled with student “canvases” made of fabric from Brooks Brothers, which co-sponsored the benefit with Van Cleef & Arpels. Parker Posey thought the pieces would make for great bedspreads.
