Lily Donaldson, Elettra Wiedemann, model Kasia Struss, Chiara Clemente, Inez van Lambsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Magnus Berger and Waris Ahluwalia packed the restaurant's basement lounge to congratulate Marant on her new boutique.
"In New York, I feel like I'm going to see Robert De Niro coming out of a taxi," said Marant, who had visited Kenmare a month ago before choosing it for her party. "We were thinking about doing something a bit cozy and a bit casual."
As for those covetable designs, Marant explained it was pure alchemy on her part.
"It's always very surprising because I just design with my soul not thinking about economical matters, it's totally spontaneous. What I'm very proud of is the things that I really love the most are the things that other people likes the most, as well," she said.
Erin Wasson, who was dressed head-to-toe in Marant's pieces, including a stack of bracelets, attributes Marant's effect to plain old intuition. "She is one of the most authentic people in this business. Her authenticity is so true to her designs, she lives it, she is it," said Wasson. "It's like a beautiful fine line between a femininity and a hard edge that she pulls off so well, so she just has it down to a science."
That chemistry even lured an eight months-plus pregnant Amanda Peet out for the night. "I think if I were in labor I would have still come to an Isabel Marant event," said the actress, who has been a fan of her clothes for years, and was meeting the designer for the first time. "I was just trying to clock her outfit and I think she's really brilliant," she continued, adding, "I'm probably too old for some of the stuff. I'm feeling kind of old right now. Everyone here is 18 and gorgeous."
After cocktails Peet and others headed upstairs for a dinner of tuna carpaccio, crispy halibut and New York strip steak. Just before 11, Marant, whose birthday was a few days earlier, received a celebratory cake complete with candles.
"I'm going to call my husband and tell him that finally someone made my birthday fun," said a surprised Marant. "I love you America."
