London was just one stop during Sen. Hillary Clinton’s three-week European tour to flog “Living History,” which faces some stiff competition from the latest Harry Potter tome. “I don’t mind Harry Potter at all — I don’t mind that kind of pressure,” Clinton said during the party that Lynn Forester de Rothschild hosted in her honor last Thursday night at Kensington Palace, where guests included Antonia Fraser, Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, Sabrina Guinness and Zac and Scheherazade Goldsmith.

The next day, the Clintons headed north to Oxford to visit daughter Chelsea.

“She’s presenting her thesis tomorrow, and she decided to invite her parents,” said Bill Clinton. “I am one proud father.”

Meanwhile, Lily Safra, Tom Ford, Jemima Khan, Tracey Emin, Sam Taylor-Wood, Jessica de Rothschild, Edward Spencer Churchill and Anish Kapoor gathered at the Serpentine’s annual outdoor summer party last Wednesday. Host Tim Jefferies, who appeared with his latest love, Alexandra von Furstenberg, was all a-twitter about the gathering storm clouds. “I think the skies might open any minute now,” he fretted. “There’s going to be a mud slide.”

For his part, Matthew Williamson wasn’t eyeing the dark clouds. “I’ve spent the evening grading women,” he said. “I’ve been marking them out of 10 on their outfits.”
