Just as skinny jeans have jumped from Williamsburg to Wisconsin, it seems the straw fedora is popping up on heads everywhere this summer, paired with anything from floral frocks to Daisy Dukes. Sure, the accessory is old hat for the cool kids: witness Euro “It” girls Lou Doillon and Alexa Chung topping off their black leather motorcycle jackets at a couture show and music festival, respectively. Rachel Bilson matched hers with a T-shirt dress during a downtown shopping spree. But the ubiquitous chapeau also has turned up in more polished and bucolic surroundings. Diane Kruger evoked seaside chic at a recent Longchamp event, while in the Hamptons, Fabiola Beracasa added a sweet touch by afixing three vintage pins onto the brim of her lid. And, proving the popular headgear need not be limited to the Pabst Blue Ribbon crowd, Janet Jackson worked her own black version while out on the town in Los Angeles.
