Artist Andreas Gursky drew a varied crowd to the Gagosian Gallery Thursday night for the opening of his exhibit, the first in the newly expanded Beverly Hills gallery. Molly Shannon, Adrien Brody, Jamie Tisch and Brian Grazer all stopped by to view Gursky’s new large scale works and other pieces from the last 20 years.

“I’m really mostly into Impressionism,” said Barbara Davis as she mixed about the crowd. “That’s my generation. But I have a friend Ed Ruscha who I think is very good.”

Hedi Slimane stopped by because he did a project with Gursky years ago, he said. But the opening and following dinner at Mr. Chow would likely be his only Oscar week outing. “Maybe the one at Diane von Furstenberg’s,” he said, referring to the designer’s legendary day-before lunch.

John Waters, whose photographs and sculptures were shown at Gagosian last year, had a few more parties ahead. “I’m going to the [Independent] Spirit Awards where I’m a presenter. I’m going to Elton John’s dinner,” he rattled off. Then in typical fashion, “and I’m going to visit a friend in prison.” Waters declined to give details.
