Click! Click! Flash! Flash! Hear that sound? That’s the soundtrack of the front row, the buzzy overture that plays before the designer’s vision is finally unveiled.

The fall shows started out slow in New York but soon they picked up speed, and by the end of the week celebrities labored through snow and slush, or were chauffeured around through the elements more likely to take their rightful place front and center. Here was Zoë Kravitz, Angel Haze and Karen Elson at Alexander Wang — cute! But then later — bang! bang! bang! — the real star power triads of starlets, supermodels and Oscar winners came along.

Blake Lively, Freida Pinto and Rose Byrne at Michael Kors and later Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and Diane Kruger at Jason Wu’s Hugo Boss and, even later, Naomi Watts and then presumptive Academy Award front-runner Lupita Nyong’o, who leapfrogged victorious with her Oscar to Miu Miu in Milan. In Paris, movie stars came out to salute stars of fashion as Karl Lagerfeld pulled Keira Knightley, Melanie Griffith and Gaspard Ulliel to Chanel and Nicolas Ghesquière’s debut at Louis Vuitton drew Chloë Sevigny, and Chiara Mastroianni and BFF Charlotte Gainsbourg.
