“I hope my singing is OK,” said Mikhail Gorbachev, who, accompanied by Russian rock star Andrey Makarevich on acoustic guitar, belted out a Russian love song in honor of his late wife during the annual Raisa Gorbachev Foundation gala hosted by Evgeny Lebedev at Alexander Lebedev’s Stud House on the grounds of Hampton Court Saturday night. Vanessa Redgrave, Sabrina Guinness, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Anouck Lepére, Jamie Cullum and Tim and Malin Jeffries swilled Champagne in the gardens of King Henry VIII’s former home before dinner in the marquee.

Later, a silent auction helped raise a total of 1.5 million pounds ($2.4 million), thanks in part to English comedian David Walliams, who donated a lap dance. “I plan to get naked, but I can’t say how naked,” said Walliams, which prompted JK Rowling to bid 12,000 pounds ($19,120). “It’s not for me — it’s for a friend of mine,” the author was quick to point out.
