The biannual, fashion-meets-music extravaganza in aid of The Prince's Trust pulled a horde of celebrities to the Royal Albert Hall, including Whitney Houston, Giorgio Armani, Naomi Watts, Donatella Versace, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss.
Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson hosted the evening of live performances and fashion shows, including Alicia Keys for Armani, Razorlight for Burberry, Joss Stone for Calvin Klein Collection, Lily Allen for Chanel and The Gossip for Christopher Kane.
All in all, it made for some serious star wattage and serious jitters. "I was so nervous I drank my first full-fat Coke in years," said shoe designer Georgina Goodman, who went on stage to thank Shirley Bassey for her performance.
During the intermission, Tom Ford circulated with Daphne Guinness; Harvey Weinstein giggled with Allen, Keys and Chapman, and Courtney Love struggled with the abundant front train on her Givenchy gown. "I have to carry it everywhere," she griped. But it didn't keep her from prowling for more designer garb. "I'm going to look for Christopher Bailey. I bought half of that damn Burberry collection, so I'm going to find him — and do some serious smooching," she joked.
After Gwyneth Paltrow presented a special award to Valentino, everyone headed to The Grill Room for Christopher Kane's raucous after party, including his grandmother, who outlasted the others 'til 3 a.m.
The night before, the Natural History Museum's Great Hall of the Dinosaurs hosted a dinner for more than 400 guests to mark the reopening of Cartier's Bond Street flagship. The dinosaurs weren't the only attraction. French chanteuse Arielle Dombasle performed a salsa number on a glittering red stage. And as guests — including Princess Michael of Kent, Rod Stewart and Tim Jefferies — meandered into dinner, contortionists in jeweled catsuits twisted and twirled on platforms lined up along the museum's corridors.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles was chockablock with fashion parties of its own. On Wednesday, Christian Louboutin buzzed around S Bar in Hollywood signing the bottoms of women's stilettos and sipping cocktails with Ashley Olsen, Rachel Bilson, Kate Mara and Kristen Bell. Budding fashion mogul Olsen said, "What I love about Christian is he knows how to take it to the next level with color or studs or whatever. He knows how to push the envelope, but he does it in the right way." After cocktails, a smaller crew relocated to Chateau Marmont for a late dinner.
