Film Fanatics... Superhero Sings Standards...

FILM FANATICS: The front row may be the coveted spot during a fashion show, but the action during Monday’s viewing of Matt Tyrnauer’s documentary “Valentino: The Last Emperor” was relegated to the middle section of the Bryant Park Hotel’s screening room. There, André Leon Talley joined his friends Rachel Roy, Samantha Rosen and Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. The towering editor, who appears in the movie, which follows Valentino from June 2005 through his July 2007 45th anniversary couture bash, howled with laughter. And his seatmates were no less vocal. When Talley made his first of multiple cameos, von Thurn und Taxis yelled out, “You look beautiful!” And she didn’t stop there: exclamations of “We love the glamour!” and “I love it!” reverberated through the room for most of the 96-minute running time, much to the amusement of her fellow viewers. Guess she liked the film.

SUPERHERO SINGS STANDARDS: When Wonder Woman defeats a villain, she wears a gold-and-red bustier and starry short shorts. When Wonder Woman does cabaret, she wears Carolina Herrera and Ralph Lauren, thank you very much.

This evening, Lynda Carter will step into her designer duds as she starts her five-night run at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. The playlist will include standards and some “dirty blues,” as she calls them, tunes with which she’s been familiar since she started singing as a teen. “I’m not trying to make myself more famous. I’m not trying to make a huge amount of money,” the actress says of her return to the stage after taking time off to raise her two children. “I want to do the music I want to do and connect with a live audience. There’s nothing like that.”

Carter, who played Atlantic City earlier this month, will get yet another chance to engage a crowd when she performs at Jazz at Lincoln Center in March. It’s a safe bet she won’t need her bulletproof cuffs there either.
