Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson may be on hiatus from touring and taking a break from her trademark towering heels “when I hold my son,” but she hasn’t missed a beat in her beauty routine and commitment to the Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR.
During a chat at the Dream Hotel in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, Ferguson showed off her signature talons painted with Album Gold and topped with glitter Glamorous from her Wet ‘n’ Wild CenterStage collection. “I may have softened the tips a bit,” admitted the pop star, global ambassador for Wet ‘n’ Wild, to ensure safety around son Axl Jack, born in August with husband Josh Duhamel.
Minutes later, she swapped sleek slacks for a black “holiday number” dress (showing she’s shed her pregnancy weight) complete with glittering heels for a bash at Tao. Fergie appeared alongside dancers in giant lipstick costumes. “I bet you thought I was going to come out of one of those lipsticks,” she said.
Along with Wet ‘n’ Wild and Walgreens executives, she presented amfAR with a check for $50,000 from proceeds generated by Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Perfect Pout V.I.Pink lipstick, sold exclusively at Walgreens. Ferguson was inspired to bring the concept to the mass market from her 2008 campaign with MAC Cosmetics and amfAR.
Wearing a new lip color called Giving Realness (named for a voguing dance move), Ferguson yielded a few beauty tips. “A little lip gloss goes a long way. I love the new mattifying powder, which is really good for the T-zone. In this day of selfies and camera phones, we all want to get rid of shine.”
With or without heels on, Ferguson admitted she is “still trying to find my footing and balance it all,” when it comes to her family, business ventures, philanthropy and career, which includes a solo recording project. “Most moms can relate,” she said. Axl is starting to sing and “make weird noises.” Whether or not he follows in her footsteps she said it is “fun to have singing as a little connection to him.”
What she does hope to share with him is a desire to give back. “We will [lead] by example, he’s going to watch what we do and how we live,” said Ferguson, who said it would be “so much fun” to have a girl, too. Meanwhile, for the holidays, she looks forward to Axl’s first Christmas and eating her mom’s famous lasagna and drinking wine from her family’s Ferguson Crest. “We all get very loud.”
