Lauren duPont, Heather Mnuchin, Shoshanna Gruss, Cristina Greeven Cuomo and Uma Thurman filed into the Plaza Hotel on Tuesday night for the inaugural dinner for Turnaround for Children, which benefits troubled public schools.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who slipped in just after cocktails, delivered a light-hearted speech about education. "Not every child is going to win the Nobel Prize, and not every child is going to learn to spell — at least I never did," Hizzoner quipped.

During dessert, a live auction kicked off, where tickets to the Chanel Couture show (donated by dinner vice chair and Chanel Vice President of Public Relations Rebekah McCabe) fetched $20,000.
