But it was her New York coming-out party — and she was late.
Among the guests waiting patiently were André Leon Talley, Victoria’s temporary godfather since her arrival in September, Diane Von Furstenberg, who whispered to Steel all night, Hilary Dick, Phoebe and Tantivy Gubelmann, Alexandra Lind and Eleanor Lembo.
"My sister is an hour-and-a-half late because she’s being sewn into her outfit," Traina announced. But it was worth it: arriving with Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the team behind her fab getup, she couldn’t have looked better.
But the night was far from over. Jennifer Creel, Marjorie Gubelmann and her fiancé, Reza Raien, bid the Traina clan adieu and made for the other side of town where Kate and Andy Spade welcomed the Lawrences — the fictional family who graces their print ads — to Manhattan with a cozy dinner at La Luncheonette, cohosted by W magazine. "They’re an idealized version of what we all wish our families could be," explained Spade, who cast models for the campaign. For their part, the mysterious Lawrences never showed, though guests like Rena Sindi, Jeff Klein, Amy Sacco, Helen Schifter, Samantha and Serena Boardman and Toland Grinell never missed them.
After all, family obligations aren’t what they used to be. What will the Spades do this Thanksgiving? They’re headed upstate to The Emerson Inn.
"Don’t tell Andy it’s a spa," his wife grinned.
