Forest Whitaker is going straight to the source in preparation for his role as a designer in Robert Altman's upcoming film, "Pret-a-Porter." Whitaker will be at the Jacob Javits Center today with Todd Oldham at the New York Premier Collections, a trade show, as the designer shows his Times Seven by Todd Oldham line. "I'm delighted -- it'll be great," Oldham said Friday. "I'm such a fan of Altman, and of Forest Whitaker." He also thinks "Pret-a-Porter" is sure to be on a par with "Nashville" and "The Player." "Any business that's so full of egos -- and God knows this one is -- is ripe for self-parody. I'm sure all he has to do is turn on the cameras and it'll be brilliant."
Florence Grinda is in town, and the festivities have begun. Mercedes and Sid Bass were having a dinner for her on Saturday, and Princess Firyal of Jordan had 20 or so guests over in her honor on Thursday. Among those admiring Firyal's collection of "evil eye" talismans were Barbara de Kwiatkowski, Beatrice and Julio Santo Domingo, Bob Colacello, Fernando Botero, Patty Cisneros, Gil Shiva, Maria and Francesca Galesi.
