Oscar Update: Oscar nominee Angela Bassett has opted to wear Escada to the Academy Awards, after she got so many compliments on her Escada gold brocade and velvet pants ensemble at the People's Choice Awards. Word is Whoopi Goldberg will don a man's tuxedo by Giorgio Armani; Janet Jackson (who'll perform), Nicole Kidman, Raquel Welch, Stockard Channing and Anjelica Huston will be outfitted by Richard Tyler (front-runner for "Best Performance by a Designer"), and Debra Winger will wing it in either Calvin Klein or Jil Sander.
