Italians and their automobiles will help in the fight against AIDS when a number of designer cars go under the hammer later this month. Gianni Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Krizia's Mariuccia Mandelli, Franco Moschino, the Fendis and Missonis all personalized cars that range from a Volkswagen Golf to a FIAT Cinquecento, with such embellishments as velvet brocades, wild python seats, striped bodies and flashing logos. The cars will be auctioned at the Salone di Torino car fair later this month in a benefit for Anlaids, an Italian association for research against AIDS.

After Hermes made one for Elle, it gave it her name and made it part of the line.

Asked why he wore the slinky number, Leitch replied: "It's a really pretty dress."
