If there was ever any question that a Manhattan baby boom is under way, it was put to rest Thursday as young uptown mummies piled into Tod’s Madison Avenue store to shop for Easter-egg-colored diaper bags and baby shoes. Even the event’s three hosts — Renée Rockefeller, Karen Groos and Jessica Seinfeld — are pregnant.

"I always thought Tod’s needed baby shoes," explained Seinfeld, who collaborated with the company on the limited-edition items whose sales benefit her charity, Baby Buggy, which distributes baby gear and clothing to needy families. "I couldn’t wait so long for my baby to fit into their kids’ shoes."

As new mom Marina Rust inspected the wares, Lillian Wang von Stauffenberg hunted down a pair of Velcro loafers for her three-year-old son.

"I think his size is sold out," she sighed.

The previous night, the Central Park Conservancy committee gathered at an Upper East Side reception to contemplate, with childlike intensity, their costumes for their upcoming Halloween Ball.

"I have an idea, but I’m not telling — in case it isn’t successful," said Sigourney Weaver.

Debbie Bancroft and Chappy Morris recalled how they met years ago at a costume party.

"It was the lingerie one, remember?" said Bancroft. "I wore a nightie, and you were a cop."
