The Olympic Games may have originated in Greece, but this year’s athletes have nothing on Hollywood starlets when it comes to dressing in the mode of the ancient gods and goddesses. For an endless marathon of red-carpet sprints, actresses like Liv Tyler, Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel and Maria Bello have turned to toga-inspired, one-shouldered dresses, often paired — appropriately enough — with gladiator heels in black and metallics. Though not technically world-class competitors, these ladies are going head-to-head in a sport of their own, smiling prettily for rabid photographers while wearing vertiginous heels for hours on end without breaking a sweat — and have the well-toned gams and deltoids to prove it. We’d like to see Michael Phelps try that.
