FRIENDLY ENCOUNTERS: In a week chock-a-block with film premieres, black tie galas and awards ceremonies, the Museum of the City of New York drew its loyal supporters to the Plaza Hotel Tuesday night for its annual New York After Dark party, this year sponsored by Fendi.

Held in the hotel's less frequented Palm Court and Terrace Room, the buffet supper and tie-optional affair proved a palate cleanser for some.

"Finally, a place in New York we're not sick of," said Helen Schifter.

And many among the crowd, which included Nina Griscom, Marjorie Gubelmann, Jennifer Creel and Dayssie Olarte de Kanavos, pled ignorance of any other social obligations filling their mailboxes.

"I don't know what's going on," insisted Celerie Kemble of her event-free calendar.

"I'm renovating my apartment," said Valesca Guerrand-Hermes. "So I'm taking it slow and easy."

Of course, there's always a digital alternative to socializing, as Jamee Gregory discovered earlier that day.

"I just joined Facebook! I had my husband set it up for me," she enthused. "And then I spent all day on it and I told him, 'I can't talk to you now — I'm friending people.'"
