THE BOY WHO CRIED WOOL: Christian Wijnants is no dyed-in-the-wool traditionalist. The Belgian designer, winner of the 2013 International Woolmark Prize, used tie-dye on the long, cozy sweater that was on display at The Woolmark Company and Vogue Italia’s cocktail party Saturday night at 10 Corso Como.

“I wanted a challenge… to show that you can create a collection that is really exciting and varied using a single wool [Merino],” he said, noting it was the first time his collection was available at the luxury boutique. “This is one of my favorite stores in the world,” he added.

Joe Bates, Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreery — the designers of Sibling, the British brand that is a finalist in the 2014 competition — also attended. Bates said their green wool jacket was a tribute to former Woolmark winner Yves Saint Laurent’s fox chubby, and noted the trio had just embarked on a whirlwind trip across London, Milan and Paris. “It’s a bit crazy, but it’s the industry we’re in, isn’t it? You can moan when you’re quiet. When you’re busy, you know it’s working okay,” he said.
