Bi-annual fashion magazine, Vs. feted its spring issue with one of its cover models, Helena Christensen, who also served as the guest editor for the issue.
Held Tuesday night in Tao Downtown's smaller bar that converts to a nightclub after hours, the gathering was called a "seated dinner" and cocktail. Although there were indeed seats, there wasn't exactly dinner. It was more like passed hors d'ouevres that came out sporadically and served to select guests, which included a smattering of Vs. staff, photographers, the model Soo Joo Park, who was battling a cold, nightlife guru Nur Khan, designer Yigal Azrouel and Christensen.
"It's really a crazy time. Most of the girls are sick during fashion week," Park said as she clutched her small, black leather bomber jacket tightly over her shoulders. "I'm sick right now. It's a rare occaision for me to be out. I'm usually at home in my bed."
As the party neared 10 p.m., those lucky enough to have eaten circulated uneaten plates of chicken wings — some jokingly called them "pity wings" — and egg rolls, as Christensen held court at a large table surrounded by friends.
The model, who is Danish, called working with Vs. a "homecoming," and noted the similarities editing the issue to her time working on Nylon, which she co-founded.
"As the guest editor on the issue I had to use myself on the cover. I told them, 'I know someone great and I can get them,'" she said.
Of course, Christensen was only kidding. She admitted that she had no intention to appear on the cover, but after some coaxing she finally agreed.
"It's been a dream come true," she said.
