DINNER WITH FRIENDS: In lieu of a traditional runway show or presentation, Vena Cava kicked off New York Fashion Week on Tuesday night with a dinner party at MPD in the Meatpacking District. And in lieu of traditional models, designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock asked several of their friends and “muses” — including Arden Wohl, Sarah Sophie Flicker and Nora Zehetner — to show off the wears.
“We really design for our friends so we thought this was a great way to do that and have a nice evening,” Buhai said as guests filtered in for dinner.
“We like to have a party,” Buhai went on. “But we don’t want this to feel too uptight. We’re doing tequila shots.”
The restaurant was Vena Cava’d for the evening with desert-themed tchotchkes and a large spray-painted “Viva Vena” on one wall.
“That’s us,” Buhai said. “We tag. I don’t look like it, but we’re pretty street.”
“Sophie’s tag name is Lil Ripper,” Mayock deadpanned.
