The Frick Collection’s annual Young Fellows Ball drew a bit more youthful crowd than normal to the museum’s Upper East Side mansion on Thursday night.

“It’s so nice to see so many 20-year-olds,” said co-chair Lydia Fenet. “I was at the door and was like, ‘Who are all these gorgeous people?’”

Like her fellow co-chairs, who included Olivia Chantecaille, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Claire McKeon, Sloan Overstrom and Joann Pailey, Fenet was dressed by Donna Karan New York, the evening’s sponsor. And true to her observation, there were some fresher faces in the mix at this year’s outing, thanks perhaps to the early blast of spring weather or maybe the ever-renewing cultural fascination with this year’s ball’s theme, the Belle Epoque. The premise, well-suited to the upper Fifth Avenue premises, brought out plenty of feathers, opera gloves and the occasional silk top hat.

“I have to say, the theme this year, people really embraced it and really dressed up,” said Chantecaille, after an impromptu portrait session with Bill Cunningham in the museum’s Oval Room. “It’s kind of fun. It feels like ‘The Age of Innocence’ kind of taking you away.”

Any attendees in danger of being too swept up the Whartonesque trappings could take a break in the Music Room, which housed a DJ turning out some very contemporary hits and some partygoers indulging in some very 21st-century dance-floor antics.
