Elle’s annual Women in Hollywood Tribute at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills drew the usual slew of power players — honorees included Oscar winners Diane Keaton, Jodie Foster, Hilary Swank, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sofia Coppola. Though that may have been enough for most to qualify the event as A-List, the stars didn’t stop there; Kate Hudson, Diane Kruger, and Kerry Washington also made the cut, and Jessica Chastain got the Calvin Klein Collection Emerging Star Spotlight Award.
So could there possibly have been any non-award winners in the room? Yes — Rosemarie DeWitt, Kat Dennings, Anna Kendrick, Emma Roberts, Molly Sims, Michelle Monaghan, Melissa George, Erika Christensen, Michelle Trachtenberg….And those were just the actresses who came to “sit and be glamorous” as DeWitt put it. Those who actually had the job of introducing the honorees included Harrison Ford, Goldie Hawn, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kathryn Bigelow, Sam Rockwell, Quentin Tarantino, Viola Davis and Elle Fanning. And Foster was worried she wouldn’t make the cut. “When I heard that Elle was taking over the [event] from Premiere, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m never going to get [an award], I’m not pretty enough. But I did get one, and I’m like, ‘Damn, I’m pretty!’”
Jesting jabs at the fashion world aside, Hollywood did take a few humorous swipes at itself. “How do I follow my mother?” asked Hudson after Hawn’s long hilarious intro (one that had Sofia Coppola cracking a few jokes of her own with her tablemates). “It’s sort of the story of my life,” she said with a smile, before ending her acceptance speech with, “I can’t wait to work with all the girls in the room. And I’m free as of January.”
