BY THE LAKE: More than 680 fans of Oscar de la Renta trekked to Lake Tahoe Saturday for his annual luncheon at the Schumacher lakeside estate.

The event, a benefit for the League to Save Lake Tahoe, grossed $780,000 this year, a record for the party. It sold out months ago, with more than 100 optimists on the waiting list. Dede Wilsey, Barbara Brown, Jean Larette, Stephanie Marver and Helen O’Hagan were among those lucky enough to score a seat.

“I look forward to this event all year, and I enjoy every moment of the extraordinary setting,” said de la Renta. The designer, on hand for his 15th year, showed his resort 2015 collection. The relaxed program of a casual lunch, followed by the runway presentation, was initiated by the designer’s pal Bill Blass in 1969. De la Renta made it a family event this year, flying in with stepdaughter, Eliza Bolen.

Alex Bolen, his firm’s chief executive officer, was at Lake George picking up their younger son from camp. “I must admit that when I was first invited to do this, I had reservations,” the designer said. “I thought ballgowns in the bright sun, on the beach, would be a disaster. But of course it works. It’s so glamorous. I love it.”

Lunch during the scorching 90-degree afternoon was a cool tomato mozzarella parfait in martini glasses followed by grilled free range chicken and sweet yellow corn coulis. The desert of ginger lime watermelon on skewers was refreshing in the heat, according to sun-hat-wearing guests.

“I especially loved the flirty, sheer, black lace cocktail dresses. They felt so fresh,” Larette said of her favorite looks. “It was a superb show.”
